Various Action Figures For Boys (Not Dolls!) Through History

If you’re still a boy at heart, then you certainly have a fondness for the action figures of your youth. Depending upon when exactly you experienced your adolescence, you probably have your own preference for figures. If you grew up in the sixties, you probably loved playing with GI Joes. The seventies, Star Wars and DC and Marvel heroes. The eighties were all about He-Man and the Ninja Turtles, not to mention Ghost Busters, and the nineties belonged to Dragon Ball Z.

Recently, the whole market for these toys has really been leaning more and more towards the adult collector, with figures becoming more intricate, and less poseable. Not to mention, more expensive. This is fine and dandy, but they kind of cease to be action figures when they’re only being bought by sticks in the mud who refuse to play with them.

The term action figure came about in the sixties when Hasbro discovered that few boys were willing to play with their GI Joe “dolls”. Hence, action figure. This would prove to be a nice, masculine euphemism.

If you want to get technical, they ARE, in fact, dolls, but by applying the word “action” to the label, Hasbro was able to lure the kids in who were reluctant to touch anything whose name had girly connotations.

Of course, it was the Star Wars figures of the seventies that really put these toys on the map. Star Wars was a revolution on more than a few levels. Besides being perhaps the most successful movie franchise of all time, Lucas, in retaining the merchandising rights, also managed to become the first movie-toy mogul. In his footsteps would follow the makers of He-Man and the Master of the Universe, and Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, creators of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. It’s certainly safe to say that the modern producer of kid-friendly film and animation rakes in a lot more money from toy sales than from tickets and TV advertising sponsorships alone.

This is a trading of cards game with expressly designed cards ; a game first developed by arithmetic professor- Prof. Richard Garfield. It is played with the minimum of two players and each game revolves around the concept of a fight against forceful wizards known as planeswalkers. These planeswalkers use their higher degree of power and sorcery by pictures showed on individual magic cards to win over their contestant. There are decks of cards for beginners known as ‘The introduction Pack’ and for more sophisticated players known as ‘Booster Packs’. Each deck is composed of a pack of 60 cards. Some competitions may contain a deck of 40. These decks of cards can be split into 3 classes as follows :

Aggro :

Combo decks as the name implies is the mix of two or more cards to make a dynamic effect that either wins the game immediately or takes turns to cause a slow win. The deck should be ready to play the combo fast enough to win before the opponent can win the game himself. Combo decks depend on power, consistency and speed.

Aggro decks have access to disruptive elements. Some examples of such decks are – imps employing creatures that are cheap, fragile and deal high damage ; White Weenie that uses smaller creatures ; Affinity uses affinity engineer together with artifacts in big numbers ; Red/Green Beatz uses low cost but high power creatures ; Sligh ; Suicide Black uses deadly cards that cost life.

Control :

The Wonderful History Of The Teddy Bear

Everyone had a favorite stuffed toy as a child and fond nostalgia makes some adults become collectors, especially in the case of Steiff stuffed animals.

They are in high demand by collectors when available at fairs and auctions, namely stuffed bears.

The Steiff stuffed animals history begins in the town of Giengen an der Brenz in Germany, around 1880.

A wheelchair bound seamstress called Margarete Steiff started a hobby and made toy animals from her own designs.

They were mostly of dogs, cats, pigs and elephants.

The Steiff stuffed animals that we know of today began when Richard Steiff, a nephew of Margarette, created the first toy bear with jointed limbs in 1902.

The bear quickly became popular in the United States and then, across the world, winning the first prize at the World Exhibition in St.Louis in 1904.

It later became known as the teddy bear, named after President Teddy Roosevelt.

Steiff is well known for its superior quality stuffed animals, and they are still produced today in the town of Giengen.

Today, Giengen is the location of the Steiff factory and Adventure museum, and the town is a mecca for those who are fans and collectors of stuffed animals.

The Adventure museum details the history of Steiff products, and has a gift shop that sells bears, replica bears, historic catalogues and porcelain creations.

The Steiff Classic range is the top end of the product line, with hand made Steiff stuffed animals of wild animals, farm animals and the famous bears.

A majority of the creations date back to the early 1900’s up to the 1920’s.

You can even see the special Valentine Bear, with a stitched on heart. It is a wonderful and romantic gift idea.

Steiff creations include a wide range of popular characters such as Peter Rabbit, Mrs. Tiggy Winkle hedgehog and characters from Beatrix Potter.

Another children’s favorite is available in Paddington Bear, with his trademark blue hat and red duffel coat.

Teddy bears, kittens and puppies are included in this collection that is designed from durable, high quality materials.

Twilight Dolls – Team Jacob Barbie Doll Or Team Edward Barbie Doll

If you have never heard of Twilight (the movie, not the time before night time) then you probably don’t have a teenage daughter (or son) or maybe you don’t keep your finger on the cultural pulse as much as you should. Twilight is the massively popular series of novels and films.Well, the Twilight buzz is bound to go up another few levels in the next couple of months with the release of the Jacob Barbie doll. You may think this is a bit over the top but hear me out.

In brief, Twilight is a love story between a teenage girl, Bella and a handsome but slightly aloof teenage boy Edward (turns out he is a vampire and 117 years old). In the first novel/film tends to be mainly about these two lead characters. Jacob had a small role in the first book/movie. He is a friend of Bella and helps her out when she first comes to Forks.

With the launch of the second movie, Jacob gets much more to do. The second book/movie, called New Moon, imore heavily focused on Jacob. Although the love story between Bella and Edward continues to bubble under the surface, we gain an insight into Jacob’s life and much of the plot focuses on the deepening relationship between Bella and Jacob. The movie went on general release late last year so I won’t give away the plot but part of the promotions for the movie involved asking people to choose between Jacob and Edward (much like Bella has to do in the movie ?)

You where asked if you were on Team Edward or Team Jacob. Many fans of the story plumped for Jacob. Besides this ‘commitment’ to the character fans were charmed by the strong performance given by the actor who plays Jacob (Taylor Lautner), which endeared even more fans to the character. Thus ever since the New Moon movie was released, eager fans have been begging for memorabilia in some shape and form.

Plenty of memorabilia was already in place, including many twilight dolls. There were Edward and Bella barbie dolls and Edward, Bella, Jacob and Alice Cullen NECA action figures but no Jacob Barbie doll. Mattel, the creators of Barbie finally revealed that they would be releasing a Jacob barbie doll in early March 2010.

The looks of Jacob Twilight doll appears that Mattel have been fairly accurate in the look of the character from the movie. He looks similar to Taylor Lautner, including the short dark hair, the six pack abs and the distinctive looking face. In terms of the outfit, the doll wears the cut off jeans and a pair of sneakers as seen in the film. The doll also has a tattoo on the shoulder like the character in the movie.

For passionate fans of the Twilight story, and the Jacob character in particular, this is a must have collectible item. Plenty of folks are passionate about collecting Barbie dolls. They hold their value like a good collectible item should do and fans like to surround themselves with items that remind them of their passion. With this in mind I believe the Jacob barbie doll will be immensely popular.

The LEGO Imperial Flagship 10210 is coming to a store near you so keep an eye out. This new LEGO ship will be available on January 1, 2010. The ship has three sections that are removable and is realistic. This is an amazing new LEGO creation.

The ship comes with many items that open and really work. This makes the ship more fun to play with. The ship even has people to interact with. Te figures are already put together but your imagination will help you assemble the ship.

This toy requires the customer to be over 14 because there are so many pieces in the set. Small children could choke on the small pieces so it is not suitable for them to have. This ship has a kitchen, fish, anchors, and cannons that look real.

You can open the front deck doors and play inside the ship. There are sails so the ship looks completely real. With so many ways to play with this ship you will have hours of fun. You can assemble the entire thing into the Flagship or just part of it to make a raft.

This lets you use all or part of the pieces. You will find the toy to be expensive but well worth the money. You can even buy more items to go with this flagship. Making it larger and more fun. By the time you are done you can have an entire village or town.

Additional items are a fort, other ships and an island. When purchased you ship grows into a huge playing area. The set back is that there are so many pieces you have to watch where they go. Finding a safe place to assemble and play will help you keep up with the pieces.

The ship can used in the bath tub and it will be fine but you can lose the pieces in the drain. This ship doesn’t actually float so you might want to keep that in mind. You can give this toy as a gift by watch to make sure the child is the correct age.

When you get tired playing with the pirate ship you can take it apart and build something else. This toy makes a great gift for a child of appropriate age. The flagship can be complicated to put together but it has instructions to help the child, but a parent many need to assist until they get the hang of it.
