Some people look down on mass produced products, but mass production is not necessarily a bad thing. It allows us to buy the products we want at affordable prices. And it makes sure those products are generally available when and where we need them. But some things are just better hand made, and that's why antiques actually seem to be gaining in popularity.

Some people look down on mass produced products, but mass production is not necessarily a bad thing. It allows us to buy the products we want at affordable prices. And it makes sure those products are generally available when and where we need them. But some things are just better hand made, and that's why antiques actually seem to be gaining in popularity.
This definitely applies to antique picture frames. These frames will show off your favorite pictures or artwork in a way that a store bought frame simply cannot. They will not only protect those cherished possessions, but draw attention to them.
If you have a photo in a store bought frame it probably looks pretty nice, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. But move that picture to an antique frame and it will take on a whole new aura. It's not something that is easily explained, but it is easily noticed.
Do you have a picture of your great grandfather displayed somewhere in your home? How much meaning would that picture have if it was displayed in a frame that he once owned, or maybe even one he made?
Now not everybody has a frame like this. In that case, imagine that photo in a frame made from the same time period. All of a sudden you have something more than a picture with a border around it. Looking at it, you'll feel as if the photo and frame were made for each other. The eyes of you and your guests will be drawn to it. And you'll love hearing the comments you are sure to receive.
Now let's talk for a second about quality. Sure there are frames made today that are handmade and of tremendous quality. I'm hardly one of those people who think everything "back in the day" was made better. But with antique frames you know you are getting something made with pride and quality.
Everything was handcrafted then. And a true artist could provide spectacular detailing. Look closely and you'll see it. Like we said, there are still frame makers today that can provide great quality, but as we mentioned, quality is not the only reason to go with an antique. It's just one of many.
At this point you're probably thinking that all sounds great, but you simply can't afford a true antique. And it's true that these frames can be costly. Go to your local antique store or local consignment shop and when you check the price tags, you just may end up gasping for air. And it doesn't matter if the frame is gold, silver or wood; you're probably still going to feel a bit of sticker shock.
At this point you may think you have two options. You can either give up your search or pull out your credit card thinking that this is your only chance to get the antique you want. But both options are bad choices. Instead, you should look around both in your local area and online. If you're patient and persist, you can likely get the frame you want at a price that's more within your budget.
That's the time to buy it. Get it home and put your favorite picture on display. You will immediately feel the difference.
Your guests and family members will notice the difference as well.
