You never know what will end up being a collectible doll. My love of dolls goes back to growing up in the'80s. I never wanted to start a doll collection, but I did want Barbies and Cabbage Patch dolls with which to play. Strawberry Shortcake was another favorite of mine. My family always managed to get me at least one of these on my birthday.

You never know what will end up being a collectible doll. My love of dolls goes back to growing up in the'80s. I never wanted to start a doll collection, but I did want Barbies and Cabbage Patch dolls with which to play. Strawberry Shortcake was another favorite of mine. My family always managed to get me at least one of these on my birthday.
The news often reported scuffles breaking out at stores when supplies started to dwindle. No one that I know was ever involved in any violence, but I did hear plenty of stories about rude behavior on the part of others. Although I wanted the dolls, I cannot imagine wanting one so bad that resorting to violence would be reasonable solution.
I think I enjoyed playing with the doll accessories at least as much as I enjoyed the dolls themselves. My Cabbage Patches and Strawberry Shortcake dolls kept me happily busy for hours as I set up tiny tea parties and sorted through all of the accessories. Although many of my dolls are now put away for safe keeping, I will eventually pass them on to my daughter.
I loved styling my Barbie's hair immensely. I had several different models of Barbie growing up. Each one was special to me. I also had a huge box of Barbie accessories that just added to the fun. Barbie was definitely a favorite of mine.
I loved my Barbies and never did anything to damage them. Even the special Barbie car and house that were given to me have been preserved through the years. Barbie is still a very popular doll for little girls. I think she will remain so for years to come.
I plan on passing my Barbie dolls down to my own family. Many of the dolls though do have some nice collectible value. There are a lot of people who sell their vintage Barbies on places like eBay for a nice profit. Although I've kept mine in very nice condition, I am just to attached to them to want to sell them.
My friends and I all had small collections of Cabbage Patch dolls back in the wild'80s. I received two of them for Christmas when two of my aunts both had the same idea for a "perfect" gift. They were quite different from each other, so I was thrilled with my doll bounty. Anyone who can remember the eighties can probably remember the difficulty some people had getting the Cabbage Patch dolls that they wanted. I certainly understood how lucky I was at the time.
Although some doll collections can be worth a lot of money, I collect for the fun of it. My memories of times spent playing with and collecting my dolls are strong and I enjoy them quite a bit. I hope as my children grow, I will be able to pass this love and appreciation of dolls on to them. Doll collecting is a wonderful hobby for anyone.
